Chennai Lighthouse to be opened to Public from November 14


Chennai Lighthouse will be opened for public from November 14, 2013. This is really a good news as people will be able to get the view of Marina Beach and Bay of Bengal. The lighthouse will be thrown open to public by Shipping Minister G.K.Vasan on November 14. 

Lighthouse in Marina Beach is one of the four Lighthouse present in Chennai. It is the only lighthouse that is present in the East Coast Road. From the lighthouse you can get a clear view of Marina Beach, Bay of Bengal, Kamarajar Salai and some parts of chennai city. The lighthouse has an internal lift which can carry 13 persons at a time. The lift is available till 9th floor of the 10 floor tower.Plans are also in the pipeline for erecting external lift for the convenience of the people.



Marina Beach Lighthouse with 45.72 metre in height was opened to public in 1977. It has been closed since 1991 following the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Children will love to climb the lighthouse and enjoy the view of the beach and part of the chennai city.
